Selecting Raw Materials
One of my favorite parts of the creative process is deciding on the materials to use for a specific project. This picture goes back to the day when I decided to start making trays. I’d already made the Pearl Quartz tray and convinced myself I could do this with invigorating success.
The road to freedom found me preoccupied with plans of a new design on a new day. A fresh start as this new project began lifting my spirits. I made my designs and mistakes took a toll on my ego as I emerged from my workshop misted in sawdust. It wasn’t long before I had made several trays when I became sidetracked with work from other homeowners. Whether mounting TV’s, mirrors, curtains, hidden shelves, etc.. I enjoyed making their home a better place.
My desire to work with the public was strong as I enjoyed helping others. The workshop was my sanctuary, but my heart was pushing me out the door to work with others. I began mounting TV’s, Mirrors, Artwork, Drapes, and Blinds for customers. I’ve now had to stop due to being diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in February of 25′. This new journey will define my existence.
It’s not an end game that defines the person, it’s the person who manages the endgame successfully on their on terms. And that’s my goal, to keep as busy as I can while helping others and creating different forms of art working with wood and stone.
I hope you find peace in your time on earth. I know it may be difficult dealing with the politics of the day but try not to put too much focus on the world as a whole as you make it through your day, in your way, on your schedule. Enjoy the small details of the day and relax knowing you’re in control of you and what you do.
